For Identification of Rhinos, ear notching is one of the methods used in Rhino management. Ear notching is a widely used international method to permanently mark rhinos for field identification purposes during monitoring. It is an important genetic tracking management tool, thus, notched; rhinos are usually related to the maternal line. Ideally, one or more triangular notches are cut on the outside edges of a rhino ear. Ear notches are considered exceptional means of identifying rhinos because of the position of the ears which are on top of the head. Ideally, one or more triangular notches are cut on the outside edges of a rhino ear. The ear notches cut into a rhino’s ear are typically 30mm triangles and are marked on the ear beforehand to ensure accurate cutting.
